May I use any classroom that appears free?
A classroom may appear to be unused and available for use. However, it might be reserved for specific days or times that overlap with your needs creating a classroom conflict. In order to ensure you will have the kind of classroom facility you need, when you need it, and not conflict with someone else, please utilize only the general assignment classrooms you’ve reserved through Classroom Scheduling. Please call us at 335-1243 and we'll help verify the classroom is open for your use or we'll try to find you a suitable alternative. Can we add more chairs to our classroom to expand capacity?
Seating in the general assignment classrooms are assigned according to Fire Safety Regulations. Expanding the seating to fit your class size would be a violation of those regulations. Please contact Classroom Scheduling at 335-1243 for a larger classroom assignment. The classroom capacity can be confirmed on our web site at http://classrooms.uiowa.edu.
What if I have an operating problem with any of the A/V equipment or computer?
Call Classroom Technology Support Hot Line at 335-1976 for immediate assistance. This telephone number is posted in each technology classroom.
Who do I notify of a problem with the classroom I have been assigned?
Call the classroom hotline at 335-1976 to report any problems in a general assignment classroom, such as broken chairs, broken blinds, or ceiling lights in need of repair. You may also submit an electronic notification via classrooms@uiowa.edu for later follow up.
How do I schedule portable technology equipment reservations for my class or event?
Call Classroom Technology Support at 335-2571 or send an email to classroom-technology-support@uiowa.edu.
What do I do if a bulb burns out in an overhead projector (not the data projector)?
Turn off projector and switch to the spare lamp then turn it back on. Call after class and report this to Classroom Technology Support at 335-2571 or an email to classroom-technology-support@uiowa.edu to notify that the spare has been activated. This ensures a spare will be replaced into the projector for later use.
How do I request any kind of changes in the classrooms?

How do I change a classroom assignment for the current semester?
Call Classroom Scheduling at 335-1243 or send an email to registrar-room-res@uiowa.edu.
How do I submit a request for room assignments to Classroom Scheduling?
Room reservations are taken in a number of ways: phone 335-1243; e-mail at registrar-room-res@uiowa.edu; electronic room request form found at http://classrooms.uiowa.edu; or FAX at 335-2636. In any case, room assignments are taken on a first come, first served basis. Priority will be focused on the schedule of courses needs.
How do I request a classroom for a future semester?
In regard to a semester assignment, departments can request rooms when submitting course offerings for Schedule of Courses. See Scheduling Regulations sent to departments with initial call for copy. The classrooms requests are just that, requests. The Scheduling Regulations are also posted on our web site for reference at http://classrooms.uiowa.edu.
In the case of a special one-time classroom request, classrooms assignments are granted after completion of initial semester scheduling. Please call Classroom Scheduling at 335-1243 for more detail.
When can I reserve a classroom for a final exam?
Final exam classroom assignments for schedule of courses are made available on the Office of the Registrar web site at http://www.registrar.uiowa.edu/exams/default.aspx approximately one month prior to final exams. You may contact Classroom Scheduling, 335-1243, at that time to reserve a general assignment classroom for your final exam.
Where do I get keys/cards for the classroom A/V Booth or Equipment Closet or a classroom access card?
At your convenience stop by Classroom Scheduling at 34 MacBride Hall and sign an appropriate form to suit your situation. An a/v closet key or classroom access card will be assigned to you for a day or up through an entire semester free of charge. However, it is possible a delinquent charge may be assessed to your university account if the key/card is not returned after an email reminder process. Please review our website for detailed procedures on the closet and access card checkout at http://classrooms.uiowa.edu.
What if someone is in my assigned classroom?
Classroom Scheduling makes every effort to avoid this circumstance. However, in the unlikely event this occurs, please call Classroom Scheduling at 335-1243 or leave a message afterhours for follow-up the next day. It would be helpful to have course number information to assist in this process. If an event has been scheduled, please present your electronic room reservation confirmation for rights to the classroom.
Who supplies the whiteboard markers in general assignment classrooms?
Classroom Scheduling provides courtesy whiteboard (or dry erase markers) on the first day of classes of the first semester the classroom facility joins the general assignment pool. Once the classroom has been in operation and the courtesy markers depleted, it becomes the responsibility of each department to provide the dry erase markers needed by their own department. Classroom Scheduling recommends the Expo Low Odor Dry Erase Markers found in the General Stores Catalog.
What if an instructor runs over their scheduled time?
Classroom Scheduling will process course and event scheduling with 10 minute intervals between sessions. This short intermission of time is intended to be shared between the instructors occupying the same classroom space for students’ questions or audio-visual setups while allowing students to arrive to the next class in a timely fashion.
What is the “Right to Recall Policy”?
Any special event reservation processed prior to the third week of either the fall or spring semester will be processed with the right to recall. This stipulation is placed on all events to ensure general assignment classroom space availability for the schedule of courses which has the priority placement within these facilities. The user will be notified as soon as possible if the event must be relocated to alternate classroom accommodations. If no general assignment space is available, Classroom Scheduling will assist in locating other campus facilities for the relocated event.

How to I schedule a classroom for my recognized student group meeting?
Please see Guest and Event Services at 135 IMU to initiate the reservation process. Events that cannot be accommodated in their facilities will be referred to the Classroom Scheduling Office for room availability.
